Ripe tomatoes in a greenhouse

Overview

Calcium nitrate is a fully water-soluble fertiliser that supplies nitrate nitrogen, which plants can take up directly, together with water-soluble calcium. As most of its nitrogen is in nitrate form, it is used quickly by the plant. Calcium strengthens the cell wall and improves fruit firmness, shelf life and disease resistance. It helps prevent calcium-deficiency disorders such as blossom-end rot in tomatoes, bitter pit in apples and tip burn in lettuce. It contains no chloride or sodium.

Applications

  • Greenhouse fertigation via drip irrigation
  • Vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers
  • Apples, pears and stone fruit
  • Strawberries and berries
  • Foliar calcium applications
